The Lego store said that the 10188 is still in production, but this is probably the last production run on this popular set.

It looks like the Death Star stocks are drying up once again. They were re-stocked in late February and pretty much available everywhere they were sold at retail (Target, Amazon, Star Wars Shop, Lego Store, etc) until a week ago. Today, they're sold out everywhere but the Lego Store.

Sidenote: The guys at the Houston Lego store said that this would likely be the last production run for the Death Star...if true, once these are gone, they're gone.

I've never seen the death star in any store except the Lego store in manhattan at $439. TRU never has any large sets by me like modular buildings. I think most people that go to TRU won't pay for any sets over $100 in my area. I got one last year during thanksgiving. I'm hoping that they will have some kind of deal during May 4th.

Death star is back in stock at amazon. I thought it might be gone for good but it's back for the moment.

Someone is buying up Death Stars. A couple hours ago, Amazon had 20 in stock, now they have none, except for a higher price from a third party retailer.

I've seen LEGO feature the Death Star prominently in their 2011 catalogs. While I realize it can be retired at any moment, and has been out there for years, I still feel as though it may be around through the holidays. Just a guess, obviously.

Anyhow - it seems to me that some folks are purchasing all the Death Stars that become available, perhaps for sale on the secondary market when it is retired.

I've seen the Amazon stock sometimes fluctuate like this, I wonder if items temporarily go out of stock like this when they are doing an inventory validation.

At the Houston Lego store, an employee mentioned that some guy came in and bought 10 death stars...said he was buying them for friends in other countries.

wow, I've never seen the two Lego stores by me carry either the death star or MF. Only place I have seen it is in Manhattan for $439

No, it was the month prior to the points deal....early Feb.

So last night around 9:30, Amazon said "only 19 left." By 10pm, they had 18 left. Now at 6am those are all gone at the $399 price, and a third party has 9 left at $497. That last batch lasted about 2 days on Amazon. I'm guessing they'll get shipments of 25-50 or so in for a bit longer, and they will just keep selling out more and more quickly. There's a whole bunch of these on Bricklink and Amazon resellers in the high 400's. Watch these jump the minute the set is not available at regular retailers.

I bought one directly from S@H back in February for full Price. Well worth it, wish I woulda got double points or free shipping, etc. But hey, just happy to have one in mint condition, non-damaged box.

Thinkin I might try to snag another off Amazon (minus tax and shipping) to resell and pay for my Death Star when they double in price after they are officially gone for good. Wonder if it will double or even break 1k.

Even the MF hasn't broken 1k. I doubt DS will do it anytime soon. $500 yeah, 600 maybe; even 700 by xmas if it goes out soon....1k? probably not for several years. Few die-hard lego people would drop 1k for any set...even this one. Statue of Liberty is a good example of maxing out pieces for lego.

Anyways, the demise of DS has been reported SEVERAL times over the past 6 months. Amazon simply reloads a few days after it sells out.
