Greetings from NJ!
Hi, I recently joined the forum, but somehow I didn't see this "introduce yourself" section until tonight. I must have been too busy reading the Sales & Deals section. I don't remember a time without LEGO. When my brother & I were young one of our aunts & uncles sent us our first LEGO set for Christmas. I was too young to remember that day, but my mom said that the four of us (parents included) played with those pieces for hours that first day. We loved LEGO so much that several years later my parents got my lucky brother a train set & a gears set. Those pieces (most with patent pending stamped on the inside) went through a lot. Many are dirty and full of tooth marks from our beloved dog who passed away 25 years ago this month. He must have swallowed the smaller ones, because there are none left. How we loved LEGO! While we played for hours at a time, my brother reminds me that nothing we built looked like it was supposed to. Even while in college we built LEGO towers to the ceiling.
In the 1980s I bought two (of the same) small classic space sets for $1.50 ea. (reduced) while I was working in the A&P. Who could resist a yellow space men? Then in 2000 I went to Denmark on a business trip. I bought my husband two sets & a bag in the LEGO store in the airport before flying back home. That Star Wars Tie Fighter & Y Wing set sat on a shelf in his closet for years. About five years ago, I took it down & put it together. AHHH! I needed more LEGO! He's a big Star Wars fan so I have an excuse to buy SW sets.
Fast forward to today. Since we don't have any kids our second largest bedroom is a LEGO room where I keep my neatly sorted loose pieces (shared by some of my Muppet stuff). Constructed sets are all over the house. My MOC skills still stink, but what the heck ... My mom is also an addict. She converted my old bedroom into her LEGO room.
