Monster Fighters Glow-in-the-dark changes

Post by brickmont13 » Tue Aug 20, 2013 11:02 pm

Hi, I'm not sure if this was brought up on TNB yet, so i'm sorry if there is already a thread on this topic. Apparently there were changes to the glow in the dark elements in some of the monster fighters sets. I'm always looking for Monster Fighters sets because of the glow in the dark bits and this came as a shock.

I found this article on brickpicker
http://www.brickpicker.com/forum/index. ... 9464-9468/

the following sets have had previously Glow-in-the-dark stickers or print changed and replaced with non-glowing versions:

9462 - The Mummy - The Mummy minifigure no longer has glow-in-the-dark print.

9464 - Vampyre Hearse - The roof sticker no longer glows in the dark.

9468 - Vampyre Castle - The entire wall and vine sticker sheet no longer glows in the dark.

The box art for these sets reflects the change of the glow-in-the-dark parts to non-glowing versions; you will be able to tell just by looking on the box. This creates two versions of each of these three sets of Monster Fighters. Each has a unique Item number and UPC code:

The Mummy Glowing Mummy - Item Number: 4654211 | UPC Number: 6 73419 16763 5
The Mummy Non-glowing Mummy - Item Number: 6032808 | UPC Number: 6 73419 19566 9

Vampyre Hearse Glowing Roof Sticker- Item Number: 4654219 | UPC Number: 6 73419 16765 9
Vampyre Hearse Non-glowing Roof Sticker- Item Number: 6032805 | UPC Number: 6 73419 19565 2

Vampyre Castle Glowing Wall Sticker - Item Number: 4654245 | UPC Number: 6 73419 16770 3
Vampyre Castle Non-glowing Wall Sticker - Item Number: 6032810 | UPC Number: 6 73419 19567 6

Odd, I wonder how no one at Bricklink noticed this...

The mystery began while I was visiting a bricklink store that had two Vamp Hearses for sale; the non glow version for $50 and the glow versions for $65. I was a little confused so that's when I started investigating.

Ah... So they've noticed, but there is no distinction between them in the catalog as of yet.

This is really dumb. The whole point of the mummy is the glow-in-the-dark, without that the set sucks.

People in BL have noticed, there have been a few threads about this. The most recent I could find is
http://www.bricklink.com/messageThread. ... nID=744986" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
However, as vynsane says, there has been no effort in the catalog to separate them. I knew about all 3 instances but did not know the item/UPC numbers. Also since UPC numbers can change with country of release etc, (I think FB has a ton...) it is likely that the CAT admins wanted to stay away from it due to the complication of the nature of alternates and just let buyers and sellers sort it out.

I swung by TRU to see if they had the lawnmower poly and peeked at the mummy set just out of curiosity. Sure enough, the mummy fig is not advertised as glow in the dark on the back of the box anymore. Very sad.

Walmart.com has two listing of the mummy set. Each has a different walmart id number and description. I emailed them asking the UPC of each set and I'll post their response when it arrives.

Ermahgerd what about the mummy alarm clock and wrist watch...

They will have no clue what you are talking about and willl probably say they are the same thing. :lol:

Why bother changing a product when it's being retired anyways?

The reason posted on brickset was "cost and durability" issues:
http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion ... -features/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

From LEGO:
"I am happy to answer your question regarding the glow elements of our Monster Fighters sets. Due to needed changes for the glow in dark ink, we cannot maintain the quality and glow effect that will live up to our standards. We have therefore felt obliged to out phase glow in the dark ink on this item and replace it with a white non-glow ink. You will mainly see this affecting the sticker decals in the Monster Fighter sets. Sadly, we have no way of identifying which sets have already underwent this change and which have not. I am very sorry, as I am sure that this is disappointing to hear."

I have to say, due to that topic at Brickset, I now can't stop thinking about forming a band called "lickable mummies".

I had an old walmart giftcard so I ordered a couple of the mummy sets from walmart.com and they both have lickable mummies (Glow in the dark)! :clap:

Argh, the mummy set I bought recently doesn't having the glowing mummy. I wasn't even aware the original sets had a glowing mummy. I guess I should be happy it was 50% off.

Nice find. Just bought 9464 - Vampyre Hearse last month and it does not have the glow in the dark roof sticker.

Wonder when LEGO change the production for all these ?
