My quick reflections on the event in Rhode Island:gschubert wrote:[
Sign up is highly advised because there are only 25 spots per store, and its not open to anyone under 15.
First of all, there were more than 25 people at the event. They pretty much let anyone in that wanted to be there. 95% were under 15: most were 8,9,10,11 year olds. I was practically the only adult. It was just a bit weird, since the set is aimed (and priced) for adults and hard core fans. I would be surprised if they sold a single set.
Wasn't very well organized from a AFOL perspective, but the kids loved it. The bricks were all over the place and the biggest disappointment was that they did not have the copy of the book available to see.
The lecturer was fine, but the whole structure really changed to become more child-centric. It really didn't allow one to see the flexibility and what one could do with the set. I looked as though most of the pieces were pretty standard, I probably could make the set out of my own collection.
Strangest thing about the set to me: only one size arch (1x4).
Looked like something fun to play with once but not really want to buy.
Nice enough people and the kids were pretty well behaved. I saw most of them decide to clean up before they were asked to. That was fun to watch.
